On this page, for each lesson I will summarise what we have done.
First lesson: 14/01/08
The first lesson usually consists in introducing what we will have to do, but it wasn’t the case because my teacher was so ill that she let us go. However, teacher explained to us that we must do some exercises and instead going home we used this time to start some computer exercises.
Second lesson: 21/01/08
In order to share ideas and speak English, the teacher made different groups. Each group defined a theme and questions about it, we wanted to make statistics so we asked the other groups, and consequently we answered their questions. Once all the people had been polled, we made a summary about the different answers and presented it to the class.
Third lesson: 28/01/08
During this lesson, we watched a video on Feynman and took some notes. In order to make a summary about the video; the teacher gave us advice to organize the note page.
Fourth lesson: 04/02/08
It was the beginning of this blog. Our teacher had a great idea instead of writing a course log, we will manage a blog. Everyone have a blog, so why don’t we use this new technology to write our course log, it’s more interactive than a book, even if the pleasure of reading a book is completely different to reading on a computer screen.
Fifth lesson: 11/02/08
After the discovery of edublogs, we watched a video about RSS. This video explained the purpose and how we can use it, RSS permit us to know which web site was updated, if it was the case we were informed. Why did we watch this video, it was in order to inform our teacher if our blog is updated, of course she looks at the new page or post.
Sixth lesson: 25/02/08
I had to admit it was difficult to go to the English lesson because it was the first day at University after the holiday. It seems too easy to adapting to it. However, the lesson consisted in studying articles from scientific magazine (All charged up and raring to go), and using the net to translate some words in to English or find some expressions. The article that I studied was on new technologies, and particularly explained the use of plasma in medicine applications, which is the subject of my work placement, what serendipity (medical implant). Of course, we studied one article per group, at the end we told to the rest of the class what we have understood of the text and explained it to them.
Seventh lesson: 03/03/08
During this English lesson, we did an exercise to learn new expressions, and we studied some abstracts which are similar to summaries but they are more specific to scientists.
The last lesson?: 10/03/08
The last lesson consisted of reading some articles. The first talked about splitting carbon dioxide, we took some notes, after the teacher gave us her notes and another article on the same theme as well as Elisabeth’s articles which were on the difficulty for non-english to assist on a conference(, ).
Not yet: 11/03/08
At the request of my teacher, I visited Tuesday groups, which presented scientific posters. There were several subject, from dolly, the first animal to be cloned, or photovoltaic to Cerenkov effect. Of course, the mot attraction was not our scientific interest but our greed because it was tea time so cakes, sweets…

Well Vanessa, Heidi was concerned that doing the courselog as a blog would be more time consuming than doing it on paper, and I thought I disagreed, but after seeing the time you must have spent on the decoration, I guess maybe she’s right !
I was very please to have the possibility of using the keys ctr+ to make the text bigger, because blue on pink in such a small font is VERY difficult to read for someone of my age!
Anyway – I’m glad you’ve taken the chance to find out about “blog potential” – and I look forward to reading more about what you learn at the level of English!
